The Rubberband was formed by Leo Ritchie (guitar), Johnny Moosa-Mikami (bass) and Marcos Fernandes (drums) in Yokohama in 1971. Shane Akikawa (guitar) and Hiromi Kudo (vocals) joined in 1972. The band played at various school dances in and around Yokohama. Fernandes left to attend university in the US in 1973 but often reunited with the band through the 70’s.
